The Physics Department is engaged in several outreach activities and programs designed to bring physics knowledge to the general public and promote science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) interest and learning among students.

Members of the UIC Physics Department are happy to visit Chicago-area K-12 schools to present introductory talks on a broad range of subjects. To inquire about a classroom visit, please email physics@uic.edu.

Several UIC Physics faculty are members of the Institute for Solar Photovoltaic Innovation, Research, and Edu-training (InSPIRE). This non-profit organization’s mission is to promote research, development, workforce training, and technology commercialization within the solar and renewable energy industry. Talks and meetings on renewable energy can be arranged by contacting InSPIRE .

The Physics Department is host to the Summer Institute on Climate and the Environment (SICE), a five day “boot camp” for future decision makers eager to join the sustainability and energy revolution happening around the globe. It’s been held annually in August since 2011 and boasts 300 alumni.

The High Energy Particle Physics Group at UIC hosts summer workshops, including workshops for high school teachers through the QuarkNet program.
