About
Nan Jiang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry and a Department Affiliate in the Department of Physics at the University of Illinois Chicago. Dr. Jiang’s research focuses on applying scanning probe-based nanotechnology in nanomaterials design and properties investigation. His group has developed a hybrid analytical technique, which combines nanoimaging and nanospectroscopy, to harvest the Ångström resolution topographic information and chemical information with unprecedented spatial and spectroscopic resolution (< 1 nm and < 10 cm-1). Currently, Dr. Jiang’s group is interested in fundamental science and applications at the atomic level, including charge transfer, electron localization and generation, photoabsorption, and photoemission. The goal is to provide the capability to dynamically study physical and chemical systems at a single chemical bond level and visualize electronic and vibrational effects with sub-molecular resolution.
Dr. Jiang’s scientific achievements have been recognized by a number of awards, include National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award, American Vacuum Society Prairie Chapter Early Career Researcher Award, American Chemical Society Richard P. Van Duyne Award in Experimental Physical Chemistry. In 2023, Dr. Jiang was named a Fellow of American Vacuum Society.
