Posthumous degree honoring Physics graduate student Christine O’Brien
At this fall's Graduate College Commencement we will be especially remembering one of our own, physics graduate student Christine O'Brien, whose parents will be accepting her Masters degree in physics. Christine died on July 3 after a four-year battle with cancer.
Christine came to Physics later in life and earned a bachelors degree in Physics from UIC in 2009. As an undergraduate student she became deeply involved in research with the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Christine applied for, and was accepted, to UIC's graduate program. Her love of, and passion for, physics was evident to all who knew her. She was an outstanding Teaching Assistant and dedicated Research Assistant within the Department of Physics. She is greatly missed.
