Liang Hong Wins Ovshinsky Student Travel Award

Liang Hong has won an Ovshinksy Student Travel Award from the American Physical Society (APS) Division of Materials Physics (DMP). Hong is one of ten recipients of the highly competitive award, which provides support for exceptional graduate students to travel to the APS March Meeting. This year’s recipients also include students from Stanford University, Cornell University, Universit de Strasbourg, and the University of Cologne.

Hong, a fourth-year Ph.D. student advised by Dr. Serdar Ogut and Dr. Robert Klie, conducts research on condensed matter and materials physics, with a particular focus on theoretical and experimental characterization of complex nano-materials. Hong will travel to Baltimore to participate in the meeting, where he will have the opportunity interact with researchers from around the globe. Hong is keenly looking forward to connecting with other materials physicists in Baltimore. Says Hong, “I hope I can share my ideas with the others and learn from them at the meeting.”
