Beren Ozek named as Meenakshi Narain Graduate Scholar at the LPC (GS) for 2024

Graduate student Beren Ozek has been named a Meenakshi Narain Graduate Scholar at the Fermilab Large Hadron Collider Physics Center (LPC) for 2024. This program is aimed to support exceptional Graduate Students from the US Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) institutions, by allowing them to pursue thesis research opportunities at the Fermilab LPC under the mentorship of resident LPC scientists.  Beren Ozek works with Professor Cecilia Gerber analyzing data collected by the CMS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) proton-proton accelerator in Geneva, SwitzerlandUsing more than 3 years’ worth of data, Beren will precisely measure the properties of subatomic particles possibly uncovering the presence of phenomena not explained by our current theoretical predictions.  Additionally, Beren is involved in a project to upgrade the CMS detector’s tracking system. This involves testing and calibrating new modules designed to enhance the detector’s capabilities.  Under the guidance of Fermilab Scientist Dr. Doug Berry, Beren will contribute to the Fermilab SPROCKET project, an effort to develop a multi-sensor readout for future colliders.
