Majorana zero modes have been celebrated as a promising avenue for achieving topologically protected quantum computing. However, doubts persist regarding their practical viability. To address this, numerical simulations become essential for assessing their real-world potential. A novel method [1] has simplified such simulations and drastically reduced the computational cost. This study focuses on a comprehensive investigation on the impact of factors such as disorder, electrostatic noise, low-lying sub-gap states, dissipation, and particle number conservation, to elucidate the limitations of a topological quantum computer. In this talk, we will present the current progress of these simulations.
