Are we Living in the Matrix?

No. Obviously not. But underlying this daft question is a more interesting one: is it possible to simulate the known laws of physics on a computer? Remarkably, there is a mathematical theorem that says the answer is no. The subtlety originates in the fact that parity is not a symmetry of our world. This talk will describe a collection of ideas related to these issues, and some recent attempts to circumvent the theorem.
