Biography:
Guoyin Shen’s research focuses on studying material properties under conditions of high pressure and at various temperatures. His work encompasses a broad range of subjects, including: investigating phase transitions and melting behavior in molecular solids, oxides, silicates, and metals; exploring polyamorphism in liquids and amorphous materials; examining the emergent properties of novel states of matter under extreme conditions; and developing, advancing and enabling high-pressure synchrotron techniques. Shen earned his PhD in Mineral Physics from Uppsala University in Sweden in 1994. He then worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Carnegie Institution for Science. Later, he joined the University of Chicago as a staff scientist and senior research associate. In 2005, he became the project manager for the High-Pressure Collaborative Access Team (HPCAT) at Argonne National Lab. Subsequently, he served as the director of HPCAT from 2010 to 2018. Currently, Shen holds the position of beam line scientist at HPCAT.
