Ultra-Violet Light/Infrared

  • WM9.1 Infrared Detector

An infrared detector is attached to a galvanometer. It measures body heat in essence. There are heat coils to provide heat, but the class can also be used. Find out who's hot and who's not.

  • WM9.2 Radiation Pressure (Radiometer)

The apparatus is two evacuated tubes that have black fms. A match is brought nearby--which has infrared heat--and the photons from the match strike the fins. Since the fms absorb the infrared, they gain the photons momentum. Thus the fms begin to spin.

  • WM9.3 UV Absorbing Plates

These are sheets of metal covered with black UV absorbing paint. To contrast this, either shine the light on the class or a volunteer.
