The BioCAT Facility at the Advanced Photon Source

The Biophysics Collaborative Access Team (BioCAT)  is organized as a National Institutes of Health (NIH) Biotechnology Research Resource and is funded by the National Institute of General Biomedical Sciences (NIGMS) to operate Bamline 18ID at the Advanced Photon Source, Argonne National Laboratory. It has now been in continuous operation for over twenty years. Its research mission is to provide access to the high brightness X-ray beam delivered by the APS to the Biomedical research community to perform non-crystalline biological diffraction and scattering studies.  In this talk I will give an introduction to BioCAT’s mission and capabilities. I will present some scientific highlights in the context of the technological developments that made them possible. I will also indicate some future directions
