Title: Function of molecular chaperone GroEL follows the Iterative Annealing Mechanism

Abstract: I will describe the annealing function of molecular chaperones using the bacterial chaperone as an example. Using theoretical arguments and simple simulations I will describe how these machines rescue substrate proteins that otherwise are destined to aggregate. The resulting Iterative Annealing Mechanism (IAM) is similar to the more familiar simulating annealing used in computer simulations although it has evolved in nature long ago. Quantitative comparison between predictions of IAM with experiments will be made.
