Title: Tests of Relativity in High-Energy Astrophysics
Abstract: There is a very long history of experimental tests of Einstein's special theory of relativity. However, only relatively recently has the powerful machinery of effective field theory been used to study possible violations of Lorentz symmetry. This has revealed that there are many forms that the symmetry violations could take, most of which were never addressed by twentieth-century experiments. Now, many of the most precise tests of relativity come from observations of highly energetic astrophysical objects. Specifically, combined observations of synchrotron and inverse Compton radiation spectra can provide very tight constraints on relativity violations in the electron sector.
