Title: Black Holes and Thermodynamics

Abstract: A black hole is a region where gravity is so strong that nothing---not even light---can escape. We review the theory of black holes in general relativity and describe the remarkable connection that has emerged during the past 45 years between the laws of black hole physics and the laws of ordinary thermodynamics.
