Looking Back to 1966

In 1966, the Beatles played their farewell concert at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Star Trek first aired on television, and gasoline cost an average of 32 cents per gallon. The same year, the University of Illinois Circle Campus, known today as UIC, awarded diplomas to its first graduating class. UIC physics department alumnus Lambert Schoolnveld was among that first cohort of graduates. Schoonveld and other members of the class of 1966 look back on 50 years of UIC years in the latest issue of the UIC Alumni Magazine.

After graduating from with his bachelor’s degree in 1966, Schoonveld earned his PhD from the UIC physics department in 1973. He taught science courses at UIC until 1983.
